Snow Tiger Martial Arts

Sensei Robert Walther

The Snow Tiger Martial Arts Association was founded in 1973 by Sensei Robert Walther. Sensei Walther's first Club was founded at 8 Wing (then Canadian Forces Base) Trenton.
Sensei Walther currently holds the rank of 8th degree Black Belt in Jiu-Jitsu, 6th degree black belt in Chito-Ryu karate, Sifu in My Jong Law Horn Pai Kung-Fu and Yang style Tai-Chi-Chuan. He is also the current president of the Canadian Jiu-Jitsu Council and maintains his position as chief instructor at the Trenton dojo.
Classes at CFB Trenton are held from 12:00 - 1:00 PM on Tuesday and Thursday except during the summer months. Children's classes run from 5:00 - 6:00 and 6:00 - 7:00 PM. During July and August, children's classes are only held from 6:00 - 7:00.
Overall attitude is stressed. Students are instructed in the proper ethical behaviour necessary for martial arts such as respect for elders, respect for law and community, respect for property, courtesy, self-reliance, self confidence and leadership. The ultimate goal of the program is "mastery over the self". After a student has succeeded to the Yellow Belt, he or she may want to join the Leadership Program where students develop from a basic Junior Leader level to full-fledged instructors.

We also promote the Karate Kids Don't Do Drugs campaign supported by many businesses and service groups in the area.
Of primary importance in our program is Street-Proofing and Self-Confidence. Our Complete Child Safety Program features every aspect of child safety from escaping adult attacks either on the ground or in cars, in crowded places, in isolated places to dealing with bullies anywhere singly or during a "swarming".
Our Head Held High Program teaches children to develop pride and confidence in themselves through repeated drills in voice, eye contact, posture and positive attitude training. All of these drills are tempered with the discipline of traditional martial arts. The goal is not to create bullies but to develop young people who have the discipline to succeed in life.
New this year: training in how to release fear of the dark, fear of being alone, fear of failure; fear of rejection; how to manage and control anger; how to release anxiety; how to release stress and how to maintain a positive attitude in the face of adversity.
Evening classes are held from 7:00 - 9:00 PM. Primary style of instruction are Chito-Ryu Karate and Canadian Jiu-Jitsu, however you may train in Kung-Fu or Tai-Chi if you prefer.
Wednesday nigths we also offer self defense from 7:00 - 8:30 (September - June). These classes are instructed by Sensei Gary Hollman. Sensei Hollman holds a 3rd degree Black Belt in Karate, a 4th degree Black Belt in Jiu-Jitsu, and also studies My-Jong Kung-Fu.
All classes are under extremely controlled conditions, and contact is limited to light - moderate. Safety is a primary concern and full contact fighting is not allowed.
