8 Wing Trenton Martial Arts Club

Location and Class Times

Again this year, 8 Wing Trenton Martial Arts Club will be conducting our famous children’s martial arts classes at the Club location in Bldg 32 (The Aircrew Selection Centre Bldg behind the Headquarters). Enter via the North side door. Classes are held Tuesdays and Thursdays from 17:00 - 18:00 and from 18:00 - 19:00. The purpose of the martial arts program is to provide students with a comprehensive series of courses in traditional Oriental martial arts from the Beginner level through the Advanced levels This program has been effectively taught to children on Base for the last 39 years. Its activities have been praised by parents, educators, service groups and law enforcement agencies.

What Your Child Will Learn
Your child will learn two martial arts - Karate and Jiu Jitsu. We follow the traditional belt system - White, Yellow, Orange, Green. Blue, Brown and Black. Requirement for promotion depends on attitude, attendance and proper execution of technique. Each child is treated as an individual and encouraged to do his or her best. Our work-outs are fairly brisk and highly disciplined.

Building Good Character
Overall attitude is stressed. Students are instructed in the proper ethical behaviour necessary for martial arts such as respect for elders, respect for law and community, respect for property, courtesy, self-reliance, self confidence and leadership. The ultimate goal of the program is "mastery over the self". After a student has succeeded to the Yellow Belt, he or she may want to join the Leadership Program. We also include Street-Proofing and drug and alcohol abuse awareness. We created the Karate Kids Don't Do Drugs campaign supported by many businesses and service groups in the area.

The Discipline To Succeed In Life
Of primary importance in our program is Street-Proofing and Self-Confidence. Our Complete Child Safety Program features every aspect of child safety from escaping adult attacks either on the ground or in cars, in crowded places, in isolated places to dealing with bullies anywhere singly or during a “swarming”. Our Head Held High Program teaches children to develop pride and confidence in themselves through repeated drills in voice, eye contact, posture and positive attitude training. All of these drills are tempered with the discipline of traditional martial arts. The goal is not to create bullies but to develop young people who have the discipline to succeed in life.
